Skin whitening is one of the most common aesthetic procedures performed in clinical practice. Despite advancements in lasers and skincare technologies, achieving consistent results particularly for challenging conditions such as melasma remains difficult. Recurrence, variable patient satisfaction, and post-procedure pigmentation (PIH) are frequent concerns, especially following CO₂ or Er:YAG fractional laser treatments.
Dr. Yong Ho Hwang has explored strategies to enhance outcomes and reduce side effects through a combination approach utilizing the SNJ Medical’s Finebeam Dual Nd:YAG Laser in 1064 nm Q-Switched Mode and the Dr. Lucent Whitening Mask. This preliminary clinical observation summarizes his findings.
Conventional whitening treatments, including various laser modalities and topical agents, often provide limited efficacy for melasma and other pigmentation disorders. Dr. Hwang noted that post-procedure PIH, particularly after fractional laser treatments, presented a recurring challenge. To address this, he developed a protocol combining the Finebeam Dual laser with the Dr. Lucent Whitening Mask, designed to enhance pigment control and overall skin clarity while minimizing post-laser side effects.
The Dr. Lucent Whitening Mask, developed in collaboration with clinicians, contains seven active ingredients with demonstrated whitening and skin-calming effects:
These components were selected and optimized over four years of clinical observations to maximize efficacy while minimizing irritation.
The combination protocol involves applying the Lucent Whitening Mask using iontophoresis (Ionzyme) for 10–30 minutes, immediately following Finebeam Dual treatment. This enhances penetration of active ingredients, providing pigment suppression, hydration, and post-laser skin recovery.
Key findings from Dr. Hwang’s preliminary observations:
Dr. Hwang emphasizes careful patient education regarding mask application, particularly regarding hypersensitivity reactions. In rare cases of irritation, immediate removal and topical steroid treatment are advised.
The combination of Finebeam Dual laser and Dr. Lucent Whitening Mask represents a promising strategy for enhancing whitening outcomes while minimizing complications such as PIH and post-laser inflammation. Preliminary observations suggest this dual approach can improve patient satisfaction, expand the efficacy of laser-based treatments, and provide a versatile tool for managing melasma, freckles, PIH, acne, and rosacea.
Dr. Hwang’s ongoing clinical experience continues to refine this protocol, highlighting the importance of individualized energy settings, treatment intervals, and adjunctive topical care.
